At Copley we believe art and design is an important part of our children's entitlement to a broad and balanced curriculum.
Art and design encourages children to develop and extend their creative skills along with opportunities for self- expression, developing resilience and confidence and thinking skills through individual and collaborative activities.
Our Art curriculum allows children to build their skills through a carefully structured progression sequence over a two year cycle. We want them to develop their own ideas, master techniques and take inspiration from the greats
We focus on five skill areas: drawing, painting, collage, printing and sculpture. We use a rolling programme so children can explore techniques building on their previous learning and work towards a finished piece that combine these skills. They take inspiration from artists (classic and contemporary)
At Copley we follow the National Curriculum for Art and Design with a skills based approach. Through five skill areas we will ensure that children:
produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences
become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques
evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art, craft and design
know about great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms.
